Bartholomew Paul Russo, Jr. “Paul” passed away at his home in San Rafael, California on Tuesday, February 14th, 2017. Born January 6, 1932 in Malden Massachusetts, he was the third of six children born to Bartholomew P. Russo, Sr. “Buddy” and Gertrude A. Mahoney Russo. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1953. He joined the Army after graduation and was sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he spent a year learning to speak Mandarin. He then went on to serve as a Communications Specialist for the US in Taiwan. After returning from his service, in 1956 he married Kathleen Margaret Finn of Winchester, MA. He was then accepted to Georgetown Law in Washington D.C. He and his wife welcomed two children, Paul Michael and Kathleen Margaret into their lives while living in Washington, D.C. After earning his Juris Doctorate, in 1963 their growing family moved home to Reading, Massachusetts where they happily welcomed their third child, Richard Laurence. He then began his long time career as in-house counsel for Fireman’s Fund. In 1972 he accepted a transfer from Fireman’s Fund bringing him to the San Francisco Bay Area. He became a nationally sought after expert in field of Agent Orange exposure cases.
He is predeceased by his son Richard (1995), his loving wife of 58 years (2015), both of his sister Miriam Russo Reid and Virginia Russo Girard of Winchester, MA. He is survived by his brothers David M. of St. Petersberg, Fl, Joseph D. of Plymouth, MA and Richard C. of Apollo Beach, FL and his son Paul M. “Michael” of Hidden Valley Lake, CA and his daughter, Kathleen M. “Kathie” of Novato, CA, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and their families.
Services will be held at St. Isabella’s Catholic Church, One Trinity Way, San Rafael, CA on Saturday March 25th, at 11:00. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939
