Derek “Scotty” Wright was born on September 29, 1983 at Healdsburg General Hospital.

Scotty was born with Coffin Lawry Syndrome. It is a very rare genetic disorder that affects 1 out of around 700,000 people. He had special needs. Scotty never knew that he was any different. He lived his life to the fullest, knocking his disabilities to the side so he could do the things he wanted in life with an unbelievable spirit.

His loves included “people” (he was a people person), Monster Truck Races, Demolition Derbies, riding in the golf cart with his dad and buddies and any event where people were having fun. He was quite the music lover and enjoyed watching concerts of all sorts on his iPad. His sense of humor was as sharp as anyone’s and better than most.

Scotty touched an amazing amount of people with his positive energy and love. It seemed anyone that met him would automatically love him. With time and more understanding of him, that love continued to grow to great heights. He did not know jealousy, revenge, greed or selfishness. Even at times when doctors and nurses were running him through tests that were not enjoyable, he would smile and say “thank you” every time. He was quite the trooper.

Scotty graduated from Montgomery High School in the Special Ed department at the age of 20. He moved into a “group home” with other peers of his when he graduated.

He was part of a “day program” for many years, being surrounded by activity and friends. This began at Becoming Independent and then at Cole Vocational Services, both in Santa Rosa. He LOVED going to his day programs and going to work or perhaps bowling on Thursdays, he kept busy.

He passed on to Heaven in the peacefulness of his group home on 3/4/19 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted parents Debbie and Jack, his loving sister Rachel, his loved brother in law Jake Forbis and his wonderful niece, Sophia Forbis.
