Janice Louise Moffett, loving mother, Nanny, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away on May 8, 2019.  Mom was born in Tacoma, Washington to George and Bernice Seidel on March 5, 1935.  Along with her older brother Joe, (now Father George Seidel O.S.B,) and younger brother John, the Seidels moved from Tacoma to Twin Falls, Idaho, Hoquiam, Washington and Portland, Oregon before settling in Fresno, California where she attended high school and college. In 1956 she married our dad, John Moffett, in 1959 they moved to San Francisco.

The San Francisco Bay Area was to be the place where Mom lived the rest of her life. Her children came into the picture in 1957, 1961, 1964, 1966 and 1968.  In 1973 Mom and Dad separated and in 1975 Mom went to work for the College of Marin where she enjoyed a 25-year career in the personnel department, retiring in 2000.  In the early 1990s Mom went back to school to fulfill a long-held desire to continue her college education.  She proudly received her BA from St. Mary’s University at the age of 59, fittingly, her cherished mom received her BA from Fresno State at age 59 as well.  A lifelong learner, Mom continued her education through Sonoma State University and Dominican University post retirement. In addition to formal education, Mom yearned to learn about and experience her world, She traveled through England while daughter Kristen embarked on a study abroad program there, France with her brothers John and George, Germany with son Brian and daughter in law Sylvia, Italy on her own and again with daughter Anne, son in law Victor and granddaughters Alysia, Kayla and Jessie while Alysia was on her study abroad program.

Mom’s dedication to her family was displayed most recently through her utter joy and amazement in her grandchildren. Her dedicated presence and participation in their sports, plays, musicals, bands, and education ensured each of her grandchildren was truly known, supported and loved individually by their beloved Nanny. Mom also loved reading, plays, movies, her church family and her large circle of dear friends who were an extension of her family. Gatherings, parties, dining out were all a big part of how Mom shared herself with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Mitch and Angel, Brian and Sylvia, John and Maureen, Anne and Victor and Kristen and GJ and her beloved grandchildren, Alysia, Jason, Kayla, Jessie, Shane, Kaylee, Alana, Ashley, Kevin, Kyle, Makena, Jack and Bennett. Mom was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her and she is already dearly missed. The family will celebrate Jan’s life with a Rosary on Thursday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. at St. James Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy in Petaluma.  A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Church, after which there will be a celebration of life to be held at Sheraton Petaluma, 745 Baywood Dr. in Petaluma.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation at UMDF.org Online condolences www.AdobeCreekFuneralHome.com
