Josephine Fesler, née Lafranchi, passed away peacefully in San Rafael, Ca, on April 2, 2015, at the age of 97.  Josephine was born on December 3, 1917 in the village of Nicasio, CA to Agostino “Gus” and Mary (Canepa) Lafranchi. Josephine leaves behind her daughter Mary Jo Lauster and her husband John, her son Steve Fesler and his wife Daria, grandchildren John, Michael, Brian, Richard, Lynn, and Nick, as well as her six great grandchildren, Holly, J.J., Abigail, Hailey, Jack, and Isabella. Josephine is also survived by her sister Augie Papina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Willard and sisters Marcie, Dorothy, and Angelina. Josephine was married to Willard Fesler on August 4th, 1947. They were married for thirty two years until his death in 1979. Josephine always enjoyed telling stories of growing up in Nicasio and raising her family in San Rafael. She especially enjoyed reminiscing about the frequent dances that she and her sisters would enjoy at the old Nicasio Hotel, Druid’s Hall, and in Point Reyes. She worked for the family restaurant in Nicasio, the Nicasio phone exchange, and she was a past president of the Druids in Nicasio. She also wrote for the Argus newspaper in Petaluma during the 1930s. Josephine was a wonderful cook. Her Italian mother taught her at a young age how to cook authentic Italian meals. Josephine happily passed on her favorite recipes to her children and grandchildren. She loved being a mother to her two children, grandmother to six, and great grandmother to another six children. Visitation will be held Monday April 6 at Adobe Creek Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma, CA 94952 from 10:00 to12:00, followed by private burial. A celebration of her life will be held at the Royal Oak Home Park Club House at 750 Wood Sorrel, Petaluma, Ca. at 12:00 on April 18.
