Pat Wayne McLaughlin, a resident of Petaluma for 18 years, died from complications of a stroke on December 27th.  Pat was born in Plainview, TX on January 21, 1942. He grew up in the Bay Area with his mother, Jueata Blevins, and sister, Kay, and enjoyed his summers in Texas on his uncle’s ranch.  He played basketball for Carlmont HS in Belmont, graduated from UC Berkeley, and received his MS at Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.

After working for many years at Teledyne Microwave in Mountain View, he and four partners created a microwave engineering company, Radian Technology, in Santa Clara, which was eventually acquired by REMEC, Inc.  Retiring in 2000, Pat and his wife, Debby, moved to Petaluma, where they became involved in a variety of community activities. Pat volunteered at the local elementary school (Wilson) for 15 years, working with kindergarteners, fourth and sixth graders, primarily focusing on math and treated them to chocolate milk every Friday. He was also very active in the Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department, serving on the Board of Directors for many years.  A very avid bridge player, he played in the Petaluma, Sonoma and Terra Linda Bridge Clubs.

He and Debby enjoyed visiting their family across the country and the world.  Pat had three daughters from a previous marriage with Eileen McLaughlin:  Susan (spouse: Ira Gitlin), Kate (spouse: Chris Collumb) and Cristin (spouse: John Hackel).  He took great pride and pleasure in his grandchildren: Allison Collumb, and Nathan and Davis Hackel.

Pat will be remembered as a kind, giving and playfully sarcastic gentleman.  His family and friends will miss him greatly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 at the Adobe Creek Funeral Home 331 Lakeville Street, Petaluma, CA 94952, with a reception to follow at the McLaughlin home.  The family requests no flowers, but suggests that donations be directed to the Wilson School PTA or Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department.
